Phenylketonuria, or PKU
There is a standard procedure known as the Guthrie test that screens newborns for a handful of rare but serious genetic conditions. Most new parents are unaware of the test. And that’s a good thing because if they did receive a call from the hospital, that would mean their baby tested positive for phenylketonuria, or PKU.
